SCIENTIFIC SCHOOLS
A scientific school is a community of scientists of different generations united by common ideas, methods and research areas, whose interests are aimed at solving long-term tasks and problems in accordance with the school’s scientific paradigm. The school is founded by a recognised scientific leader and forms scientific traditions.

Measures aimed at identifying and supporting the best scientific and innovative projects that stimulate research, development, and interdisciplinary and scientific cooperation, and promoting the achievements of science, technology and innovative technologies.
SCIENTIFIC EVENTS
Various forms of organising scientific activities: conferences, seminars, forums, symposia, roundtables, etc., where research is discussed, ideas are exchanged and innovative achievements in science are presented. Scientific events stimulate the development of cooperation and popularise science.
SCIENTIFIC AND RESEARCH PART
For significant scientific achievements, ensuring the integration of education and science with production, successful implementation of international projects and programmes, the National Technical University ‘Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute’ (KhPI) was granted the status of a self-governing (autonomous) research national university by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated 03.02.2010 № 76.
Having received the status of a research university, NTU ‘KhPI’ has intensified its work on basic and applied research and development in the priority areas of scientific, scientific, technical and innovation activities, including in cooperation with the National and sectoral academies of sciences. The university ensures continuous integration of education and science with production by creating educational, research and production associations of basic departments and laboratories together with academic institutes, enterprises, institutions and organisations. The work on the protection of intellectual property rights, in particular, innovative developments of NTU ‘KhPI’ is being improved. The university actively promotes the training of highly qualified scientific and pedagogical staff through postgraduate and doctoral studies.
The university actively supports existing and develops new scientific schools. This is mainly done by attracting funding for research from public and private funds in Ukraine and abroad, as well as by holding start-up festivals, exhibitions, workshops, fairs, scientific and technical conferences, symposia and congresses under the patronage of NTU ‘KPI’, which helps to maintain and expand professional ties with Ukrainian and foreign scientists.
Over its 140-year history, the university has trained about 200,000 specialists, including more than 5,000 specialists for 130 countries. Today, the university consists of 9 educational and research institutes, which includes 114 departments with more than 10,000 students studying in 43 specialities. According to the Concept and Programme for the long-term development of NTU ‘KhPI’, the integration of the university into the European community of elite technical higher education institutions is one of the strategic components of our long-term development.
The university has 40 schools of thought known in Ukraine and abroad. Scientists actively cooperate with 20 institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, including: E.O. Paton Institute of Electric Welding, Institute of Electrodynamics, National Research Centre ‘Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology’, B.I. Verkin Institute of Low Temperatures, as well as with more than 100 manufacturing enterprises, firms and companies.
