Science Days 2025 at Kharkiv Polytechnic

More than 5000 students, postgraduates, teachers and scientists took part in the events held by the National Technical University ‘Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute’ on the occasion of the Science Day in Ukraine. The geography of the participants of scientific, scientific and organisational and popular science events includes almost all regions of Ukraine and 30 countries of the world. In total, 12 official events were held these days, and this is the best result in recent years, especially in this difficult time when our country is fighting for its future.

The main event was the annual 33rd International Scientific and Practical Conference ‘Information Technologies: Science, Engineering, Technology, Education, Health’ MicroCAD-2025, which was opened with a plenary session on 14 May. In particular, more than 3,000 participants attended the conference events, its plenary and breakout sessions, online and offline. And the collection of abstracts of the conference became the largest in its history, as we collected almost 1800 abstracts.

Also, as part of the traditional celebration of Science Days, the National Technical University ‘Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute’ hosted a number of scientific and educational events that brought together students, teachers, graduates, scientists and young people interested in innovation.

The audience was especially interested in the lecture in English by Associate Professor of the Department of Intercultural Communication and Foreign Language Victoria Larchenko ‘ColorPromotion: CaseStudies’. She revealed the strategies for promoting colour in the fashion industry and business in general, demonstrating real examples of the impact of colour on consumer behaviour.

The roundtables also proved fruitful: they discussed innovative technologies in heat supply, decentralised energy saving systems, thermochemical approaches to the use of Ukrainian coal, and the role of student research groups in generating ideas. Leading scientists, industry experts and representatives of enterprises joined the discussions.

The Department of Steam Generator Construction organised two thematic webinars, one of which was for lyceum students to promote modern achievements in the energy sector. The Energy Hub Youth Scientific Association held seminars on project management and SAM software for modelling solar power plants.

The meeting on grant programmes of international scientific and technical cooperation was equally useful. Employees of the R&D department briefed the participants on the opportunities to participate in EU programmes, including Horizon Europe.

Another important event as part of the celebration of Science Day in Ukraine was a gala event in Zaporizhzhia organised by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. The event was hosted by Denys Kurbatov, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, who congratulated the scientific community on their professional holiday and presented state and industry awards to the leading scientists and educators of the country.

Ruslan Kryvobok, Head of the Research Department, was honoured to receive a commendation for Kharkiv Polytechnic for the high rate of implementation of international research grants in 2019-2023. Also, the following employees of our university received diplomas and gratitude from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for their significant contribution to the development of science, fruitful educational and research activities:

  • Deputy Head of the Research Department Artem Zakharov – Diploma of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine;
  • Antonina Maiselis, Associate Professor of the Department of Technical Electrochemistry, received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

The following employees of our university received letters of acknowledgement from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for their professionalism and conscientious attitude to the performance of duties in conducting scientific and scientific and technical expertise:

  • Head of the Department of Micro- and Nanoelectronics Roman Zaitsev;
  • Head of the Department of Mathematical Modelling and Intelligent Computing in Engineering Oleksii Vodka;
  • Senior Researcher at the Department of Micro- and Nanoelectronics Nadiia Kanunnikova;
  • Leonid Konotopskyi, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Physics of Metals and Semiconductors;

This recognition was an important testament to the high level of scientific achievements of polytechnics, as well as confirmation of the active participation of KhPI in shaping the country’s scientific and innovation space. The university continues to strengthen its position as one of the leading research centres in Ukraine, uniting talented researchers, teachers and students.

The events held within the framework of the Science Days confirmed the important role of the university as a space for the exchange of ideas, scientific growth and cooperation between generations of researchers. We sincerely thank the academic and research staff, doctoral and postgraduate students, students and all the employees of Kharkiv Polytechnic for their work in this difficult time!
